Prevent Ingrown Hairs
To be able to understand and know how to prevent ingrown hair you need to know how ingrown hair starts. Ingrown hair are hair that are cut off near the follicle level which grows back abnormally usually sideways and either is blocked by skin from growing or grows sideways through skin and cause inflammation, bumps, redness, tingling sensation, rashes and in a worst case scenario infection.
Ingrown hair occurs in two very common ways in which we remove hair: shaving and waxing. It is during these two that hair is cut off wrongly and starts an ingrown hair. Shaving and waxing may be two of the easiest activities we can do, but most of the time they are the two activities we do improperly.
The following are suggestion on how to shave and wax to prevent ingrown hair.
Shaving and Waxing Tips To Prevent Ingrown Hairs
Shaving
- Before shaving wet hair for at least 5 minutes. Saturated hair is easier to shave than unsaturated strong and tough hair.
- Shave in the direction of the hair. This prevents hair being cut too short.
- Avoid repeating strokes over the same area. Repetition cut hair too short.
- Shave without putting pressure or stretching the skin.
- Exfoliate with loofah, cream or scrubs and apply some anti bacterial agents after shaving to prevent infection. Tea tree oil is suggested.
Waxing
- Apply thin layer of wax in the direction of hair.
- When applying cotton strip over wax, rub to the direction of hair and leave about a third of the strip for you to hold on for the fast pulling action.
- Pull the skin tightly before pulling on the cotton strip.
- Pull back with speed close to the skin. Don’t pull u[ or out, pull back.
- One fast pull back is better than a series of pull which usually leaves patchy areas and are more painful.
- After 24-48 hours exfoliate with a sponge, scrub or loofah to prevent the accumulation of dead skin.
- Avoid wearing tight clothing.
